A Private Perkins Cove Proposal in Ogunquit, Maine

As a Perkins Cove proposal photographer, I get to witness some of the most meaningful moments in my clients' lives. Erica's surprise proposal to Anna was one of those days I'll carry with me for a long time. Not just because of the beautiful ocean views or the thoughtful planning, but because I had the privilege of documenting such an intimate moment between two women whose love for one another was impossible to miss.

I share so many life experiences with my clients simply by being a queer woman. Validating their relationship and their love gives me so much joy, and I never take for granted the trust my couples place in me during such personal moments.

Planning a Surprise Proposal at Perkins Cove

When Erica reached out about proposing to Anna, we started planning everything over Zoom. My goal is always to make sure the person proposing can stay focused on the moment while I handle the logistics behind the scenes.

Erica rented a beautiful beachfront home overlooking the water in Perkins Cove because she knew Anna would love the privacy and the incredible ocean backdrop. It was the perfect setting for a proposal that felt completely personal to them.

While Erica and I finalized the timeline, her family helped decorate the space with candles and meaningful details. As we waited for everything to come together, I loved hearing stories about Erica and Anna's relationship. You could tell how excited everyone was to celebrate them.

A Beautifully Intimate Proposal

Once everything was ready, the family quietly left the house while I waited inside the living room for Erica and Anna to arrive. Since Anna had never been to the rental before, her family simply told them where to walk, allowing the surprise to unfold naturally.

When Anna realized what was happening, her reaction was everything Erica had hoped for. She was completely surprised and overwhelmed with happiness.

After the proposal, they spent a few quiet moments together looking through photographs that their family had arranged around the room. It gave them a chance to slow down and soak everything in before we headed outside to celebrate.

Portraits Along the Coast of Perkins Cove

After they had a few moments to themselves, we wandered down to the private beach for their engagement portraits.

The weather couldn't have been more beautiful for an early summer evening. The sky was bright blue, the air was warm, and the ocean provided the kind of peaceful backdrop that makes Ogunquit so special.

This location meant even more because Erica's family vacations in Perkins Cove every year. Choosing a place that already held so many memories made the proposal feel even more meaningful.

What stood out to me most was how profound their connection was. They truly seemed like best friends, which is one of my favorite things to witness in so many queer relationships. There is something incredibly special about the closeness two women can share, and photographing that kind of love is something I never take for granted.
