A Portland City Hall Elopement in Portland, Maine

As a Portland City Hall elopement photographer, I know that some of the most meaningful wedding days are also the simplest. Trevor and Alyssa chose to celebrate their marriage surrounded by their closest family, keeping the focus exactly where they wanted it, on each other. Their day was intimate, quiet, and beautifully elegant from beginning to end.

Getting Ready Together at The Portland Regency Hotel

One of my favorite parts of this elopement was that Trevor and Alyssa got ready together at the Portland Regency Hotel. Instead of spending the morning apart, they shared a quiet toast before walking hand in hand to Portland City Hall.

There was something so calming about the way they approached their wedding day. They weren't worried about putting on a show. They simply wanted to marry one another and celebrate with the people who mattered most.

A Simple and Elegant Portland City Hall Ceremony

When we arrived at Portland City Hall, their family was already waiting in the ceremony space. You could feel the excitement in the room, mixed with the kind of wedding-day nerves that make the moment even more meaningful.

The ceremony itself was simple and elegant. Surrounded by family who were genuinely overjoyed to witness their marriage, Trevor and Alyssa exchanged their vows in a setting that felt timeless and understated.

One of my favorite things about a Portland City Hall elopement is the architecture. Before heading outside, we spent a little time creating editorial-style portraits inside the ceremony room before making our way to the iconic staircase, one of my favorite places to photograph inside City Hall.

Portraits Around Downtown Portland

After exploring the grand staircase, we stepped outside to photograph portraits on the front steps and beneath the beautiful façade of Portland City Hall.

Spring had arrived at just the right time. The cherry blossoms were in bloom, the air was crisp, and the soft light made downtown Portland feel especially beautiful.

From there, we wandered through Exchange Street and Wharf Street, two of my favorite portrait locations in the Old Port. Trevor and Alyssa were excited to celebrate with their family, so we kept our portrait session relaxed and efficient, giving them plenty of time to enjoy the rest of their day.

Creating a Comfortable Experience

One thing that stood out to me about Trevor and Alyssa was how naturally private they were. Alyssa, especially, was wonderfully shy, and it was clear that having a small elopement allowed her to fully enjoy the experience without feeling like she was the center of a huge production.

That's something I think about with every couple I photograph.
