Lily and Michael’s wedding at the Portland Harbor Hotel was everything a city celebration should be — stylish, full of heart, and brimming with personality. Set against the hum of downtown Portland, their day unfolded with a mix of heartfelt emotion and spontaneous, joyful energy. Every moment felt like a reminder of why I love photographing couples who lead with authenticity and connection.

What stood out most about Lily and Michael’s day was the deep connection — not just between them, but within their families and wedding party. There was an unspoken warmth between everyone in the room. Parents beamed with pride, friends laughed through tears, and every interaction felt like an extension of their love story.
As an LGBTQ+ wedding, it carried that special magic that comes when everyone feels free to show up exactly as they are — no hesitation, no performance, just genuine love.

When it came time for their first dance, no one expected the show-stopping moment that followed. Their choreographed routine was flawless — part romance, part surprise, and all joy. Guests erupted into cheers as they twirled, dipped, and moved across the floor like they’d been rehearsing for years. It was one of those moments you don’t forget, and one that felt uniquely them.

Throughout the day, my focus was on creating space for Lily and Michael to simply be. I guided them with light posing when needed but leaned into their natural chemistry. During family portraits, when Lily grew tired of standing, I made the call to have them sit — trusting my instinct to prioritize their comfort without losing the elegance of the images. Those ended up being some of my favorite portraits of the day — relaxed, connected, and effortlessly beautiful.
Lighting played a huge role too — bouncing between the moody indoor ambiance and the golden light filtering through downtown reflections, each frame told a small part of their story. And with a quick turnaround, they were able to relive those memories almost immediately.
